May – Newsweek, in partnership with The Leapfrog Group, published its first “Best Health Care” series. The article highlights some of the best infection prevention products, including Applied Medical’s Alexis wound protector-retractor.
March – A study published in the ANZ Journal of Surgery demonstrates that use of Applied Medical’s Alexis Orthopaedic protector, a medical device designed to isolate the superficial tissue layer from the surgeons’ gloves, instruments and retractors, significantly decreases the incidence of P. acnes infection in the surgical field by acting as a physical barrier.
March – A meta-analysis study published in Surgical Endoscopy shows that wound protector use is associated with a statistically significant reduction in SSI in patients undergoing lower gastrointestinal surgery. The study further shows that there is a 63 percent decrease in SSI risk when using dual-ring wound protectors compared to using single-ring wound protectors.
June – Applied Medical announces the completion of a 2.94 megawatt (DC) solar installation, consisting of rooftop arrays on eight separate buildings at its headquarters in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. and a local distribution center. Combined, they generate almost five million kilowatt hours of electricity annually. This latest investment in solar supports the commitment Applied Medical has made to its sustainability efforts.
March – A recent study published in the European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology showed a statistically significant reduction in mothers’ surgical site infections, bleeding and postoperative pain when the Alexis O C-Section Retractor from Applied Medical was used.
